As a leading plastic bag manufacturer and recycler in the United States, Hilex understands the importance of keeping plastic bags, wraps, and sacks in the recycling stream. We also recognize that there are times when plastic of all kinds are improperly disposed of and end up in places where plastic doesn’t belong.
The good news is that many companies recognize this problem and are rising to the challenge, including reducing marine debris. Our friends at Envision Plastics, one of the world’s leading recyclers of HDPE, have recently partnered with Method, a household and personal care company, to collect waste from our oceans, enter it into the recycling stream and ultimately transform it into new plastic packaging for their products. Method’s soap and cleaning bottles are made from 100 percent recycled materials, and with this new initiative, about 10 percent of the plastic used for their bottles will be made from plastic recovered from the ocean.
Transforming plastic objects that have reached the end of their lifecycle into something new and useful is something that we at Hilex know a great deal about, as we take great pride in recycling plastic bags every day. We commend Envision Plastics and Method for forging a partnership that is admirable and inspiring and that will help keep plastic in the recycling stream and out of our oceans.
